Biles II
Simone Biles was on fire! The G.O.A.T returned with a vengeance and a visibly huge difference on the competition floor. While she was always known to be such a class act, this wasn't your average Simone – a rejuvenated Biles showed hunger, focus, and was absolutely electric.
“I feel like success is just what I make it.” (Simone biles quote on interview for U.S Olympic Gymnastics Trial)
But that's not all that Biles did! She was the heart and soul of the US team, inspiring her teammates to soar to new heights. Biles' comeback story is truly one for the ages – a testament to her incredible talent and consistent push on the boundaries of the sport.
Suni Lee Pioneering Double Medal on Uneven Bars
While Simone was always going to be a marquee Olympic name for Paris, let’s not forget that she’s on a team with the reigning AA champion who has an incredible comeback storyline to follow.
The “SunInevitable” Sunisa Lee deserves a mention of her own. Despite the uncertainty surrounding her future in gymnastics, she managed to win a gold medal and two bronze medals at the Olympics.
Lee's ability to rise above adversity makes her a true inspiration. She has proven that with dedication, one can overcome even the most challenging obstacles. Her journey is a symbol of hope for those facing health issues, demonstrating that it's possible to achieve greatness even in the face of adversity.
“Im super proud of everything i was able to accomplish, including this” (Suni Lee quoted in interview)
Although we hope to see more of Lee's gymnastics in the future to solidify “The Lee” as her signature move, Suni has already achieved greatness (both individually and as part of the team) leaving a lasting legacy in gymnastics. Her hard work and dedication truly paid off.
Congratulations, Suni!
The Queen of Vault
Brazil's most decorated Olympian added another gold medal to her collection! Rebeca Andrade won the women's floor title at the recent Paris Olympics with her stunning vault routine, which earned her a high score of 15.100.
Beyond her Olympic success, Andrade's personal story is truly inspiring. Born and raised in the favela of Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil, Rebeca Andrade overcame significant challenges to achieve her Olympic dreams. Growing up, Andrade often walked two hours each day to train. Her extraordinary talent was first recognized at home when she began performing trapeze-like tricks from her bunk bed.
“Every time I arrive at a competition, it's to fight" (Rebecca Andrade Quote on interview)
We hope her victory will motivate young people from her hometown to dream of gold, too!
Alice D’Amatos’ “stroke of luck”
When others fail, one always steps up and delivers! In a breathtaking display of athleticism, Alice D'Amato soared to victory on the balance beam. D’Amato was able to do a full routine without a wobble or a fall, which capped off a 14.366 score.
Despite all the mishaps, D'Amato seized the opportunity and maintained her composure during her routine.
"(But) this is how a beam final works. The one who can best withstand the pressure, use it to her advantage and perform the best exercises will win. Today, this person was me." (Alice D’Amato Quote on interview)
The victory not only secured a gold medal but also contributed to Italy's historic team silver medal, the country's first in women's gymnastics since 1928. Winning a gold medal in the Biles era was such a surprise, and her reaction to winning gold nearly brought a tear to everyone's eyes.
Keep on going, Alice!
Carlos “Golden Boy” Yulo clutch routine
In recognition of each country's groundbreaking athletes, history was made once again as Carlos Edriel Yulo became the first Filipino and Southeast Asian gymnast to win an Olympic gold medal in the floor exercise event.
The gymnast executed a daring triple-twisting dismount, launching high into the air with three full-body rotations before flipping and sticking the landing, earning a perfect score of 15.000. Yulo marked a historic moment for the Philippines, as their national anthem was played in an Olympic stadium for the first time in over a century.
