More Than Flips: A Glimpse into a Gymnasts Life

More Than Flips: A Glimpse into a Gymnasts Life

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a world-class gymnast?

Elite gymnasts often train a whopping 20 hours a week, splitting their time into two daily practice sessions lasting anywhere from 1 to 4 hours each. And that’s 6 days a week! With just one day off per week, it’s a grueling schedule, to say the least. Let’s take a closer look and see how amazing athletes like Simone Biles, Suni Lee, and Jordan Chiles manage their busy lives and still find time for themselves.

Get ready to be amazed (and maybe a little sore)!

Wake up, get dressed, and get breakfast

Early birds catch the worms... and gymnasts catch the gold! To stay at the top of their game, these athletes fuel up with a breakfast that's as powerful as their flips. Think oatmeal with a protein punch or a fruit smoothie that's packed with energy, like Simone Biles. According to Buzzfeed Tasty (@buzzfeedtasty on Instagram), Biles rarely eats or drinks coffee for breakfast. But when she does, she starts her day with oatmeal or a fruit.

So, the next time you're feeling sluggish, remember: even gymnasts need their breakfast!

 Warm up/Morning training sessions

Following a nutritious breakfast, gymnasts begin their rigorous training sessions. These morning workouts can extend up to four hours, depending on the demands of the season. Can you believe that? To wake up with a bang, Simone Biles cranks up the beats of Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Megan Thee Stallion. Jordan prefers a cold shower to wake up, and Suni makes sure to get her morning caffeine fix.

Lunch

Lunches are different for each gymnast, depending on their diet. Post-workout, gymnasts fuel up with protein-rich lunches tailored to their individual dietary needs. Simone, for instance, prioritizes protein over fiber, while Jordan opts for lighter options that sustain her energy throughout the day. Suni, on the other hand, prefers simple, on-the-go meals like salads and quick-to-prepare recipes.

After lunch, gymnasts recharge in their own personal ways. Suni focuses on physical therapy, Simone relaxes with her beloved pets and Jordan takes a well-deserved nap.

Afternoon training sessions

After a quick break, it's back to the grind! Can you guess what's next? That's right---more training! Gymnasts need to return to the gym for their afternoon training session. Unlike the morning practice, this is where they truly wake up and harness the energy from their meal. Afternoon sessions focus on perfecting full routines, ensuring they're ready to take on any challenge.

Nighttime Rituals

After a demanding day, it's time to recharge! Reflecting their individual preferences for relaxation, gymnasts' nighttime routines vary. Jordan still prioritizes a thorough skincare routine, while Simone finds solace in spending time with her hubby.

Watching gymnastics superstars like Simone Biles, Suni Lee, or Jordan Chiles makes it seem effortless, but trust us, it's not! While their routines may appear graceful, easy, and somehow similar to our daily routines, the reality is a demanding journey filled with immense training sessions and the thrill of competition. Despite the challenges, this lifestyle has proven its worth.
